TITLE:  Race & Ethnicity in U.S.

Description: SO301 Race and Ethnicity in the United States. 3 hours. This course introduces students to contemporary race and ethnic relations in the United States. We examine how race has been socially constructed in the past, how racial identities are created and maintained in the present, the emergence and persistence of racial inequality, current beliefs and discourses about race, and how some groups are resisting racial inequality. We pay close attention to the relations between the dominant society and African-Americans, Asian-Americans, Latino-Americans, and Arab-Americans. Prerequisite: SO101 or SO102. Odd-numbered Springs.
